My Ham Radio Interests
Emergency Communications, General playing around with radios. Doing VE sessions.

My Shack is a 1987 Suburban 4x4 that started life as a news van. It was converted to a satellite up-link truck and then surplussed out. They took the TV gear and antennas but left me the 4kW generator built in power distribution system and dual battery system.

We had an event here and the hams were asked to help out with communications. It gave me an opportunity to take the truck mobile and work it a bit. I got to the site early and started the generator to keep the house battery charged and then tuned around 20m a bit. I caught someone taking part in the Alabama QSO Party which was a good bit of fun. I also chatted with some of the local gang on 2m and 70 cm and even found out some more info on the test session the VE team I'm on had to do that afternoon. One thing that did happen is that we got a good bit of rain for us (nothing like back East). As a bit of a joke I put an old coffee can I had out on the hood. It didn't fill up too much and I had to wait until I got home to check the rain gauge to see that we got about and inch of rain. Rather odd for Sunny Northern California in June.
