last summer i had to take my car in for a service so had a few hours to kill while waiting. So i took the ft817 and my homemade miracle whip with me and found a quiet spot in the local country park. I was not expecting much from the miracle whip but i was pleasantly surprised. I had about 10 qso's with it on 30,20,17 10 and 6 mtrs. All cw with 5 watts out.
I took a nicad pack 12v, 4amp as a power supply. The miracle whip as i said was homemade and i used a 10mtr long counterpoise just thrown on the ground. No real dx worked, but thats no surprise but i did work into Spain, Italy and Sweden and signal reports were around the 579 mark.
I also had a couple of two way qrp qso's on 30mtrs into GM, (Scotland) and had an enjoyable couple of hours.
I did not expect much from the set up but was surprised by the results.
Will it replace my PAC-12 or endfed wire for /P, i don't think so but to chuck in a backpack now and again when i don't want to put up something better, it will do :-)

there is a pic i took of the set up in my pictures folder.
