I have just finished my lasted project which has been to rework one of the three Drake TR4 transceivers I own. The radio has now been re-capped, re-tubed and the power supply re-built with the power supply kit from the Heathkit Store.

Immediately after putting the rig on the desk I tuned to 20-meters and noticed the band was open to Europe and the Central American, in a matter of 15 minutes I had worked a station in Solvenia, Cuba and Spain all with 59 signal using the TR4 and a Mosley TA-33 at 40'. I have noticed sun spot numbers have been in the mid 50's which is very good but the band conditions are spotty at best. I look forward to the change of season as we swing into fall and winter as we can expect radio conditions to change along with them.

If the forecasts are true, us poor people in the Northern part of the US are in for a cold and long winter which would make since we have had a record high temps for the summer months and it will go down in the books as the warmest summer in Minnesota history.

For Now 73 and good DX
