After Murphy 's hit on my digital compass some brainstorming was done. I have a 125 € rotor with 3 wires old fashion HI, but we could make it new fashion with with the usage of the compass chip.

Let's add a keyboard for entering the bearing , add an ATMega16 as controller with RS-232 interface to the rotor controller program of HRD (Ham Radio Deluxe), add a rotary encoder for those who prefer to turn knobs i.s.o. using the keypad add a 6 digit 7- segment display (Recovery from a never finished project from elektor) showing the current bearing and the bearing where to go to.

Basic diagram has been drawn, now to find time to make it in detail.

Let's first check if we can get the communication up and running between the ATMega16 and the MMC2120MG chip, because the data sheets of this chip are very mystic.
If we can get this working we can continue with the other parts of the automatic rotor.

To be continued.
