My Ham Radio Interests
I have been a CW operator my entire time as a Ham. I first got interested in Ham radio with Jeff Smith W4ZH and Dean Kokinda WA4ZMT(no longer active) we were all in our very early teens. Our Elmer at the time was a WA4NFK; Pat McLeod, who has since moved away, and Coleman Rowland W4TWW SK. I occasionally do SSB, but only if the DX is rare , or I am demonstrating what it is I do up in the Attic at night

Hf is Kenwood TS-2000 DSP & Kenwood TS-590 running 100 watts to: 160m 1/2 wave dipole at 70 feet. VHF is YAESU FT-2900 to Ringo Ranger at 50 feet. I use a Vibroplex 100th anniversary bug. My SKCC# is 3897. I also belong to QCWA. I operate only cw, but have been known to venture into the phone bands, usually to demonstrate this great hobby. I enjoy building my own antennas and experimenting with different designs. I am 48 years old and have lived in Charleston all my life. First licensed at age 13 as WD4BTC, then at age 15 upgraded to General as N4BCI. Upgraded to Advanced at 17. Kept that call until 2010 when I was issued K4BTC. Passed the Extra exam on 02/06/2010. I have been having a blast working grayline dx on 160meter cw, and have been doing some DXing on 80 and 40 meters. I am also now enjoying the bottom of the bands and my dxing has increased with access to these extra freqs!

Other Interests
love Drag Races, car shows, junk yards, auctions, and flea markets. I also enjoy landscaping and my garage!

Well after so much procrastination, I have done it. I passed my Extra class today and am finally at the top. Sixteen years of procrastination and it"s done. Should have done it a long time ago.

I'm the boat you just bailed out of - procrastinating but wanting to step up and get Extra.

Failed the Extra exam by a few points, very close. Gonna have to hit the books again and pass it this time. Would love to be able to transmit on all those extra band segments. I think they should have an optional 20 WPM code test, and give those who pass a special call sign just to reflect their achievement.

Thanks for the congratulations! I tell you, Hamtest online is the way to go. I bought 2 different study books of the most recommended authors and they were like reading a dull, dry story. Hamtest online was actually the best learning course I have ever taken. The way it repeats and explains the questions so you understand them is really great. After a 1 hour session each night I would read through the book material I had during the next day and after a few days it just all clicked. I understood not only the formulas and theory and rules/regs, but how they worked which made it so much easier on the test. I began to be able to see, in the question itself, the answer. It was actually kinda fun to see how the more I studied, the program would start shifting me into more and newer material until I had it all. It took 23 hours with this course and the really cool thing is that the info is still with me. Not trying to sound like an ad for the website, but it really really works. Give it a try, it worked great for me! 73s and good luck, hope to cu on the lower 25!
