TX3A in the Chesterfield Islands has been an elusive target on 160M for several days now. Despite earnest attempts to make a contact I have met with no success. Last night the antenna suddenly developed a problem, the SWR would shoot up at high power. Going up the 105 foot tower suppporting it was a good exercise I must admit, replaced the suspected broken balun. Back at the radio and good SWR at 100 watts! TX3A caught WT of my call and sent ?. Sent my call twice but for naught. So, I fired up the amplifier for a better signal and the initial problem popped out again. High SWR! I have some climbing to do later, to replace all cables this time. I checked the balun I replaced and it is not broken hence my decision change the feedlines.
All other systems work fine. In fact, I bagged TX3A on 80, 40, and 30M.
