Well the TS-940 is gone, traded for a Yaesu FT-990. As you probably can tell, I like to trade and try different radios! It's been in the shack about two weeks and have used it in the ARRL CW contest and the NAQP RTTY Sprint this past weekend. The radio performed flawlessly in both contests. It is the AC/DC model, 1993 model with all filters, which really makes digital mode operating easy. One thing I like is the ability to select any filter in any mode, perfect for PSK31 and RTTY. The radio is in mint condition and I am really happy with it. It does have the hiss problem I have read about so I bought a 6KHz ceramic filter on eBay, and am just waiting for it to arrive, so I can install it. From what I have read, this great reduces the hiss.

Enjoying the shack in the new location, drove six hours Friday night to pick up my daughter, then another five hours Saturday morning to bring her home. Hit a major whiteout just driving into Toronto Friday night and spent the extra hour crawling on the 401 through the snow. The drive home was clear and uneventful. She is getting settled in nicely.

Hoping to work on the antennas when the weather warms up a bit. Thinking about taking down the DX-B sloper and putting up a longwire. The sloper really doesn't work well on 40 or 80, which I attribute to its low height above ground. The longwire won't be much higher but I will be able to run it in two directions. The sloper favors the east and I would like a little direction to the south. Time will tell.

Filter arrived and is installed in the radio and it does in fact reduce the background hiss. The radio now sounds as good as my old TS850S. Looking for a Timewave ANC-4 or MFJ-1025/1026 noise canceling unit. If you have any of these for sale please let me know.
