Outdoor Antenna

Well the first outdoor antenna has been temporarily put up. It's a home made 2 meter 1/4 wave ground plane that is about 15 feet in the air. Getting pretty good results out of something that cost $10 to build.

The next adventure is pulling a pile of aluminum tubing from the rafters of the garage and sort out the pieces of a 13 element 2 meter beam and a 3 element 10 meter beam.

And then there will be the fun of seeing how many sections of tower get put up. It will probably only be 3 sections getting close to 20 feet. And who knows where that rotor and control box can be!

Anyway it's good to get back on the air and enjoying the ARES nets, especially the .580 simplex net.

But I still miss hearing "10-75 at the box, All Hands going to work" !!!

I also need to get to work on several antennas that I have on the ground.

They work much better if you get them in the air. Just may be I will get to this pretty soon.

Relocating/Re-building

Currently trying to rebuild my "Command Center" from NJ on a smaller scale. My NJ shack was centered more on a listening post. On an average I was able to monitor 300 to 400 VHF Low, VHF High, UHF and 800 Mhz frequencies on a daily basis.
Sadly enough with the "new" Colorado DTRS system most of my communication receivers and scanners are pretty much useless.
And the cost of the new monitoring equipment is much too expensive.

I really miss the constant chatter of the FDNY, NYPD and local public service communication!
