My Ham Radio Interests
I became a ham because I do a lot of hiking in the woods near my home. Since there are a lot of rocks and quarries, I found out that a cell phone does not work in many areas that I hike in with my dog. A blind friend of mine who is a ham told me I should get my license since ham radios DO work in the woods and I have to say while hiking in the woods with my daughter and a friend with her dog, I did get lost and the ham radio was the only thing that helped me as I was found by someone with experience in foxhunts.

Now as a certified dog trainer, I have clients with interest in search and rescue training so I incorporate my hikes in with my ham radio use and intentionally hide in the woods for dogs to find me. It is a great way to bond with your dog, learn to trust your dog and listen to your dog while communicating via ham radio.

If you are reading this and would like to spend a saturday morning in the woods with your dog experiencing all kinds of terrain, please contact me.

Equipment
Vertex 150 HT
Yaesu 857D
Yaesu 8900
Home brew dipoles

Other Interests
dog training-- I have a handicapped child and had a seizure detection dog but now he has multi task trained service dogs. My german shepherd mixes are awesome in the woods finding people as well as assisting me when I am not sure where I am.
hiking- I love nature and the woods. There is nothing more satisfying then seeing deer in their own environment undaunted by anything. I just have to be sure to wear my bright colors during hunting season as I was out once during the first day of shotgun hunting season. Luckily I trusted my dog who knew to get me to safety.
