My Ham Radio Interests
My first taste of two-way radio communications was during my high school days way back in 1978 using a CB radio. Having worked DX on that band has encouraged me to go ahead and upgrade to the "real thing". I first got my Extra class amateur radio license in 1986 as DU1COO and still holds that ticket to this date. It was in 1994 when I earned my Extra Class ticket as KH0DK in Saipan, Mariana Islands in the Pacific and have worked dx from there occasionally. When I moved with my family here in Texas in 2003 I had my callsign changed to the present AD5MD.
I am originally from the Philippines and was active in several SBB & CW contests as DU1COO. My active Ham Radio activity spanning almost 17 years from there has earned me several awards both from the ARRL and CQ Magazine sponsored contests as well as different operating achievements. My only regret was not being able to finish my DXCC Honor Roll as DU1COO. I was short by 8 DXCC entities at that time!
For now I am just starting to work DXCC again. This time as AD5MD. I have yet to turn in my cards for checking at the HQ but to this date I have already worked 238 and confirmed 108 with my modest set-up.
I enjoy working and chasing DX from 80 to 10 meter bands both from my base station and on mobile.
